Mount Kanchenjunga is regarded as the Queen of the Great Himalayas. The mighty Kanchenjunga stands on the Nepal-India (Sikkim) border high above rhododendrons and large forests with rivers pouring from it sides. On Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek you will be able to study the culture and life-style of the Rai and Limbu communities of Nepal. Fly from Kathmandu to Taplejung and trek to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp at Pang Pema and return to Taplejung by the same route; then fly back to Kathmandu full of memories and a tired body.

The lowland portion of this region is culturally intriguing, but there are few good mountain views. The two treks described here will probably need to be extended by a few days because of porter problems, weather, or the need for a rest day. The Kanchenjunga region is the home of the Limbus. Relatives of the Rais, Limbus dominate the region east of the Arun River and few live elsewhere. Limbu men wear a distinctive tall topi, a Nepalese cap that is much more colorful than that worn by other Nepalese.

There are options to extend the trek and get further into the wild. A bus drive to Basantpur and trek to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp and then back to Basantapur or Taplejung would take anything from 25 to 28 days depending on your trekking skills and stamina. We can also cross the Lobsang La or Mirgin La Pass by spending a few more days gives an adventure for interested clients. This indeed is not a compulsion but just an option.
