We take-off from Kathmandu airport in the early morning for an hour’s worth of spectacular mountains scenery and the Himalayas. Mountain Flights are suitable for all categories of traveler.

The magic begins right from the start. As the aircraft lifts up and heads towards the East, you won’t have to wait too long to find out what is in store for you. There they are – the mountains, as they always have been. First to your far left you will see Gosaithan, also called Shisha Pangma, standing tall at 8,013 meters. Immediately to the right of Gosaithan, there appears Dorje Lakpa at 6,966 meters, a mountain that looks like the number 8 lying down and covered with snow throughout the year. To the right of Dorje Lakpa is Phurbi-Ghyachu, which looms over the Kathmandu Valley.

As the plane moves along, you will feel like extending your trip and going for a trek as the mountains come closer and closer. Next on the vision is Choba-Bhamare, the smallest one of the lot at 5,933 meters but singularly stubborn as it has never been climbed. Then appears the mountain that is not only prominent in sight but also in spiritually important – Mount Gauri-Shankar. Lord Shiva and his consort Gauri are said to be protecting this mountain, at the proud height of 7,134 meters from the sea level and the summit had a history of unsuccessful attempts till 1979. Gauri-Shankar is sharp and very conspicuous during the mountain flight.

The land of the rising sun in Nepal, the Eastern Himalayas with succession of glorious mountains is next on the line. Melungtse, a Plateau – like mountain stretching up to 7,023 meters, Chugimago at 6,297 meters and is still a virgin are seen next. At 6,956 meters, Mount Numbur resembles a breast, maternal source in the sky providing pure milk to the Shepas of the Solu Khumbu Region. Next up is Karyolung, an intensely white mountain that at 6,511 meters gleams with the rising sun. Cho-Oyu is the eighth highest mountain in the world. Reaching a height of 8,201 meters, it appears stunningly beautiful from the aircraft.

Next on the line is Gyanchungkang, at an incredible height of 7,952 meters it is considered extremely difficult mountain to climb. To the right of Gyanchungkang is Pumori standing tall at 7,161 meters. As you inch closer to the mighty Everest, there is Nuptse at 7,855 meters, which means West Peak, signifying its direction from Mount Everest.

The long wait comes to the end and everyone in the flight is spellbound as the all mighty, the roof of the world, Mount Everest is seen reaching the height of 8,848 meters; it is the highest point on the planet. Also known as Sagarmatha by the Nepalese and Chomolungma by the Tibetans, this is the icing on the cake of your Mountain Flight. Much has already been written and viewed about Everest, but to actually witness it face to face right in front of you during a mountain flight is something incredible. Even while it looms there in front of the eyes, it remains an enigma, this highest spot on the planet earth.

Then back to Kathmandu and you have witnessed everything in just an hour. The Mountain Flight is an incredibly easy and accessible way to get close to the Himalayas and Everest. This will not only make your trip to Nepal worthy but also give you that immense satisfaction of having seen the roof of the planet. Though you might have missed out on the magestic Trek to Everest Base Camp, we as your local outfitter through the Mountain Flights can ensure that you take the view with you back home. You will feel like doing the whole trek on foot next time but you will truely be flying abouve the roof of the world.
