MONEY DOES MATTER A LOT, DOES IT NOT?

We would never compromise safety to reduce cost but we do offer value to every single Penny spent here in Nepal. As outfitter in Nepal, we have never left any cost HIDDEN, this indeed turned a few clients away as they saw a big difference is price but one thing is for sure, when we give you a number, that is a final one. Everything will be detailed as to what your payment includes and what it does not. On top of that we as outfitter in Nepal always give you estimations of the cost that are NOT included in our price so that you know what to expect and in turn can enjoy your trekking in Nepal experience while we take care of the rest.
Nepal has its own currency and is called Nepali Rupees. Nepalese rupees are not available in outside the country. They almost have no value outside Nepal. You may change money at the airport, your hotel or designated foreign currency exchange counters. When doing so, you will be given a receipt stating how much money was exchanged. It is the policy of Nepal Government to refund you only 15% of the amount that your receipts say you have cashed. So please make sure that you keep your receipt intact.
Nepalese Rupees comes in denominations of 1000, 500, 100, 50, 25, 20, 10, 5, 2, and 1. Coins come in denomination of 10, 25, 50 paisa, 1 rupee and 2 rupees. One rupee equals 100 paisa.
Payment in hotels, travel agencies, and airlines are made in convertible currencies. Credit cards such as American Express, MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted at major hotels, shops, and restaurants.
ATM machines are widely available in Kathmandu and Pokhara for drawing cash from credit cards and debit cards.
Exchange rates differ every day, but below you will see some exchange rates against Nepal Rupees so that you can have a rough idea:
1 AUD = 90 NPR (Australian Dollars to Nepalese Rupees)
1 GBP = 160 NPR (Pounds to Nepalese Rupees)
1 EUR = 120 NPR (Euros to Nepalese Rupees)
1 NZD = 80 NPR (New Zealand Dollars to Nepalese Rupees)
1 USD = 95 NPR (Dollars to Nepalese Rupees)
Below we have categorized some expenses that you might need to make while in Nepal. We very strongly recommend that you purchase anything you wish when our staff member is with you or you can even let us know about the stuff you need and we will arrange them for you. We can settle the payments later. Our only wish is to make sure that you do NOT pay anything extra while in Nepal other that the real value of that product.
1. TRIP COST:
The cost of your trip entirely depends on the adventures you wish to include in your trip. As your local outfitter in Nepal, we will be providing you with full details of the cost of your whole trip and not even a single cent will be charged on top of that. Please bear in mind that we will also provide you with the list of things that are included in your trip and with the list of things that are not.
2. COST FOR PERMITS TO CLIMB:
Some peaks and places in Nepal require permits to climb or pass through. Depending on the trip you choose, we will notify you well in advance of these costs and will also include these in your trip cost. No extra charges will be asked after you land in Nepal, everything will be made clear well in advance. This ensures your enjoy your trekking in Nepal experience.
3. ACCOMODTION COST:
The cost of bed and breakfast is included in the accommodation cost. It could be anything depending on the way you choose to live. Luxury five star hotels could cost you hundreds of dollars per night while we can also arrange studios and hostels that would cost you like 30 dollars per night. As your outfitter, we have got a huge range for you to choose from.
4. GENERAL TRAVEL COST:
General transportation cost in Nepal by public vehicles is very cheap. It would cost you about thirty cents within the valley. Taking a cab would cost you like five dollars for 10 kilometers. We do not recommend travelling on your own, if you need to go somewhere, just let us know and we will arrange someone to be with you at all times.
5. FOODING COST:
Food cost in Nepal is low as well. A descent meal can be purchased from one dollar to hundred dollars depending on where you eat. Once again we recommend that you let us know about your food preferences before you travel, we will make all the arrangements necessary and then your trip will be much better and you can enjoy yourself while we take care of the rest.
6. BASIC REQUIREMENTS COST LIKE WATER / GUM / BASIC MEDICAL STUFF / BATTERIES:
A bottle of water will cost you about 30 cents, while a pack of gum would cost you about 50 cents. Batteries cost one dollar for a pair and basic medicines like paracetamol would cost 10 cents apiece. We would like to remind you that we can arrange all that you need, all you need to do is let us know.
7. CLOTHING AS SOUVINERS (NEPAL PRINTED T-SHIRTS):
Basic cotton T-Shirts with Nepal or stuff related to Nepal printed on them are nice gifts for people back home. They should cost you well below 10 dollars apiece. You can always do your shopping with one of our staff next to you, will save you a lot of money and hustle.
8. GENERAL GIFTS (MASKS / STATUES AND SO ON ....):
Handicrafts in Nepal are very appealing and it is one of the most preferred gifts taken away. However since these stuff does not come with any price tag, we advise that you always do your shopping with one of our staff next to you, will save you a lot of money and hustle. We will be more than happy to be of your assistance.
9. DRINKS (BEERS / SCHOTCH / WINE / VODKA / COCKTAILS...):
A drink at a pub should not cost you more than 5 dollars that could be a beer or standard scotch. Cocktails could be a touch expensive and as high as 10 dollars.
10. TIPS AT RESTURANTS AND STAFF MEMBERS:
We would like to remind you that all restaurants will add 13% on top of your bill as Service Charge. So you have given your tip already. If you wish to add some on top of that, one or two dollars would be more than enough. Regarding our staff, we strictly advise NOT giving any tip away. Especially not while you are in the mountains with our staff. We do not want a feeling of in-equality arising among our staff members. Giving tip to one and not to the other have every chance of creating such situation. They get well paid and it is absolutely not necessary to give any tip at all. If you feel like doing so, you can do that while we get back in Kathmandu.
11. PHONE CARDS AND PHONE BILLS:
We will provide you with SIM cards upon your arrival, so you will not need to worry about your phone numbers. The SIM will also have 3G available, so you will be connected wherever you go. This is a complementary gift from us and we will take the SIM back before you leave Nepal. Incoming calls are free and you can always use Viber or Skype or Whatsapp for communications which are also free. If you need to use internet, we advise you bringing a laptop and we will connect you to internet with a portable router.
12. BRANDS SHOPPING:
If you wish to purchase some branded products like The North Face or Nike, there are authorized shops in Nepal in and around Thamel area. You do not need us to be with you while in these shops. They have a very fixed price as the items are branded.
13. ENTRY FEES AT DIFFERENT PLACES:
As your local outfitter in Nepal, we must remind you that there are entry fees that apply to foreigners at different places within the valley and outside. These fees could start from 50 cents and go up to 10 dollars. You will be travelling with us at all times, so you can relax and let us do all the arrangements. Before you land here, all your costs and expenses will be made crystal clear to you.
